Who Is Violet

the

Long-tailed Tit.

Hello my name is Violet.  I’m a long-tailed tit and I live on Ryebank Fields with my brothers and sisters, family and friends. You can see us flitting about the trees and hedgerows and roaming over the famous historic Nico Ditch where we can find juicy caterpillars on the elder trees. We are a noisy and fun-loving bunch who love doing everything together (no social distancing for us!).

If you want to spot us, we have long tails, black and white feathers with splashes of pink and we have a distinctive undulating flight. And we are not the only birds around here, keep your eye out for other tits such as blue tits and coal tits and finches too. Ryebank Fields is a perfect home for us all and gives us lots of insects at this time of year (I recommend the spider) and tasty seeds in the winter. We like to watch you walking your dogs and sitting on the logs. We enjoy ourselves watching you enjoy yourselves and appreciating the nature around you.

Yes, we really love our lives here but we are worried about our future as we’ve heard they are trying to take the fields away from us.

If you want to help Violet and her long-tailed tit family, as well as all the other birds that live here, then join us on Facebook,  Friends of Ryebank Fields

My Home

I decided to make a small group of boxes to represent the community of birds and people.”

The boxes are made from reclaimed woods that have been burnt to give more texture and also has the benefit of weather proofing the wood. The maple tree that my boxes are located on was pruned recently so I used some of the prunings for the legs.

My Song

Rose Niland is a local musician who is very much associated with Ryebank Fields and she has recorded the followimng video on the fields

Enter Ryebank Fields at the junction of Ryebank Road and Longford Road.  Follow the path straight ahead then bear slightly right following the rough path.  The birdboxes are on your left on one of the first trees you reach on this path.

People of

Chorlton

All the people you see on these pages have been absolutely amazing in a time which has been tough for everyone, especially people in the arts. However, these brilliant contributors have given their time for free to create for you a unique experience and hopefully allow you to enjoy and escape for a while from this pain of a pandemic.

All the contributors are now passing the baton over to you in the hope that you will add your support to this local community project and help our chosen local charity in these extremely difficult times. We’ve chosen the Chorlton & Didsbury Foodbank because we don’t think anyone in our community should have to face going hungry. They provide three days’ nutritionally balanced emergency food and support to local people who are referred to them in crisis. You can now help this amazing operation by following the link to the donate page.

Thanks so much for your support, we hope you enjoy the hunt and let your friends know about it.
